Before Photos

Although I've misplaced my high school yearbook, Elaine Carvalho Murphy still has her's. So thanks to Elaine here are a few "before pictures". If you would like to help create an EHHS Class of '75 Before and After photo gallery, drop me a line with your scanned image or digital photo in jpeg (jpg) format.
Here's Sig's before photo, and my after is by clicking on my name link in the sidebar. Speaking of sides, how about those wicked sideburns and photogray glasses? Luckily the glasses and sideburns are now gone. Unfortunately so is some of the hair and the waistline.

Here's Elaine's before photo. Look below in the post on the "Spirit of Giving" for her current photo.

Recently, we've heard from Paul Secker, so here's his before photo too.

Hello From Paul Secker

As Mark Twain so eloquently put it, "rumors of my death are greatly exagerated (or premature, or something like that)." I haven't seen anyone in over 31 years, so I'm trying to make up for lost time here. I'd love to hear from anyone from the old crew. My email address is: pesecker01 at snet dot net. I hope to hear from yourself and others soon.
All the best,
Paul Secker
Class of 1975

Editor's note: I've converted Paul's email address into a format that is not readable by SPAM bots. If you would like to send him an email just type the information without any spaces and replace the words "at" and "dot" with their equivalent symbols.

In the News

Our EHHS reunion Blog was in the news earlier this year. If you want to read about other reunion Blogs and a bit about this one by Jessica Berthold of The Morning Call in Allentown, Pa.

The article points out some interesting uses for a reunion Blog so let me know if any of them sound interesting to you.

About Elaine's MS Ride

TO ALL OF OUR SUPPORTERS

Thank you all for sponsoring Chris and I. Together we raised $1770 to help find a cure for MS. The ride was long and tough but we always remembered that living with MS is a lot more difficult. We didn't get a photo when we reached Myrtle Beach, we were so excited to get a hot shower and food! This photo was taken at the Darlington Speedway after we took our victory lap.

Thank you all so much for your support. We look forward to the 2007 Breakaway to the Beach.

Elaine

The Spirit of Giving

Elaine Carvalho Murphy can use your help raising funds to end the devasting disease of Multiple Sclerosis. Here is an excerpt from a recent email from her:

"I definately need sponsors for the MS 150 [Breakaway to the Beach Bike Tour Saturday, September 16]. People can sponsor me by doing an on line pledge. All they need to do is go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society webpage and then link to me. I am riding for the Bolt Brothers Bee team. That is how Gail sponsored me. All riders are required to get $200 minimum in pledges before the ride. It is quite an event. Approximately 2000 riders arrive in Darlington SC to finish the ride to Myrtle Beach SC. Riders start in either Columbia, SC, Monroe, NC or Rockingham NC. We are leaving from Rockingham. I'm really excited about the ride. I will also be a red bandana rider. The bandana riders wear a red bandana autographed by the person with MS that they are riding for."

You can pledge clicking here to SPONSOR ELAINE

Please join your EHHS Class of '75 classmates Gail Dineen Bergeler and Sig Dellhime in sponsoring her.

1970's Fads, Fashions, and other Faux Pas

How well do you remember the 1970's? Were you a victim of times jumping on every new fad or trend? Or were you stuck in the 1960's? Here are some fads I can think of from the early to middle 1970's.
  • Platform shoes - yep, I owned a pair in our school colors, blue & white.

  • Pet rocks - can you say, "sit, stay, play dead?"

  • Skirts - did you have trouble making up your mind between mini, medi, or maxi lenght?

  • 8 Track Tapes - damn, where did I put my copy of Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road?

  • Glasses - plastic or wire rimmed? If you were like me you compromised and had plastic wire rimmed glasses.

  • Hair - yes, we had hair. What was your favorite style?

  • Let me know your favorite fad or trend and I'll add it here.

    A Blast from the Past - 2

    FASHION STATEMENTS FROM 1975
Before there was a program called "That 70's Show" there were those of us who actually lived it and wore the clothes!

Elaine Carvahlo Murphy sent along the following message.

"Here are more photos. I think the last picture is of Roy Ryzak, Paul
Cullen and Doug Cleary. Everyone looked great on dress up day. Bob
Jarow took these pictures. We lived in the same neighborhood but I
don't remember how or why he gave them to me. They've been sitting in my yearbook."

As always, your help in identifying who is in a picture is greatly needed and appreciated.

In the first picture are Susan McCarthy Kickery, Teresa Leone Russo, and Debbie Cushman perhaps showing their fashion sense on Senior Clash Day.

In this Senior Dress Up Day photo, we've identified Bill Curry, MaryBeth Tully, and Chuck Holmes. Can anyone help finish identifying our unamed subjects? Spiffy coat you've got their Bill!

Straw hat, oversized sunglasses, sport coat and tie - hmm, quite fashionable. But who is making this sartorial statement and why? Is it a collision between Senior Clash Day and Senior Dress Up Day?

    Roy Ryzak, Paul
Cullen and Doug Cleary sharing a moment in the Library.

    A Blast from the Past - 1

Elaine Carvalho Murphy sent along a couple of senior year photos. Below are Kevin Haberen, Sig Dellhime, and Louis MacNaughton adding a touch of class to the Senior Class lunch tables.

I'll post the second (and personally embarrassing) photo another time.

    Old Photos - Redux

Or is it "retouch?" A couple of days ago I got an email from Elaine Carvalho Murphy regarding some old high school photos she came across. She's not sure how she ended up with them, but she intends to scan them. Once scanned, she promises to send them to me for posting on the Blog.

I can't wait. As I mentioned to her, somehow I managed to survive high school (and college for that matter) without taking any pictures so I am anxiously awaiting her photos...

    In Memoriam

Let us never forget those classmates who are no longer with us.

We honor the following classmates and keep their memory alive:
    • Gary Bliven
    • Michael Bosse
    • Nelson Cabral
    • Margaret Foley Tamburrino
    • Mark Plourde
    • Brian Riley
    • Thaddeus Verchinski
    • Kyriakos "Richard" Yamalis
It is not an easy or enjoyable task to maintain this final High School Honor Roll, but it is our noblesse oblige. Please help keep this list current so that we may properly remember our departed classmates.

Noblesse oblige - If one is capable of doing a task to benefit another, one is obliged to do so.

    Reunion Pictures - Part II

More pictures and the same sad excuse for not labelling them and for why you may look blurry.... Don't forget, you can always click on a picture to see a larger version.

Here's one picture I can label - that's me and my wife Roberta.

Here's Louis MacNaughton and my wife with Tim Simoes and his wife Joan (and no, my wife doesn't have a drinking problem, she's holding my drink and hers).
Entertainment was provided by the Glamour Girls.
I have more photos if anyone is interested (no, not of the Glamour Girls, of Reunion attendees). Let me know if you want me to try and post more.

    Reunion Pictures - Part I

Here are some pictures from the Reunion. Since I've never been all that swift with names, you can help by identifying the individuals in the pictures. Now before anyone complains about how they look in a picture, just remember there was an open bar...

In the first picture are from left to right Roxanne Donofrio McCann and Suzanne Donofrio Bronson

Susan McCarthy Kickery shares a moment with Aldo ('74) & Joyce Mazzadra

Facing the camera from left to right are Bonnie Smith Lemire '76, Lori Crispino Esposito '76 and her husband Mark. Roxanne Donofrio McCann and Mark Greer have their backs to the camera.
